  • Decision to study physics (at 16) and not: languages (this you can always learn by yourself) and music (I only regret I could not do that parallel to physics)
  • Bardzo interesujace wydarzenie w 1968
  • 4 semesters of mathematical analysis with Prof. K. Maurin -- enriched and folded the grey matter in my brain into infinite dimensional manifolds (one hemisphere)
  • 2 semesters of quantum mechanics with Prof. I. Bialynicki-Birula -- almost as above (the other hemisphere)
  • A book of Frisch and Thorndike "Elementary particles" which I read as a II year student and became convinced that I wanted to study elementary particles
  • I narrowly escaped breaking my neck in a ski accident impacting a tree in December 1970 (on the 31st, ropeway car number: 13)
  • Bardzo ciekawe wydarzenie w 1973

  • Fragment mojej ulubionej piosenki o organizacjach politycznych znajduje sie tutaj.

Entertainment muess sein! - powiedzial Herr Jaschtschur i udal sie do Powroznikow.

Herr Jaschtschur, po dlugim czasie uzywania wylacznie klawiatury, gdy w koncu wzial do reki pioro to ku swemu zdziwieniu zauwazyl, iz zmienil mu sie charakter pisma recznego.

    Other activities and interests

  • Music
I play piano. So if you play an instrument or sing, why don't you get in touch with me? We could at least have a conversation.
  • Poetry
If you are interested in poetry -- contact me too, not only in the case you happen to write yourself...
In order to give you a feeling, you may find my translation of Baudelaire's poem (from French) into Polish :
    here

We could talk even if you can do it better...

    Jacek Ciborowski 1974

  • In the 70-ties (probably 1977), the times of Gierek, when I was an assistant in the Physics Dept. I attended a "Postgraduate course for the academic staff" which was organised at the Warsaw University. Attendance was by invitation in the very imperative sense of the word: we were told that no promotions were possible should one not complete the course. I completed it and even received a good note (in fact we all received good notes) as well as a diploma (which I have lost). I should perhaps mention that I was not present even on a quarter of lectures: the participation in a given lecture was recorded on a list when the door was not yet closed.
  • One sunny day in April 1974 me and my colleague took chairs and went up to the roof of the "pavillon'. We were chatting and drinking beer on the occasion of the birth of his first child. Unfortunately, Prof. J. Pniewski spotted us as and we were asked to leave the roof immediately. However the celebration, which lasted for about half an hour, was successful (no consequences).
  • Another day I was leaving the 'pavillon' going for lunch (I often like to eat alone). Still in the corridor I met someone who was trying to force her company upon me. This made me so angry that I said I had forgotten to take something from my office, went back, closed the door, opened the window, jumped out to the street and I had my lunch alone. Later I thought that was not at all nice.
  • A true story involving a play of words - in Polish (year 1973).
