The conference was organised by:
Prof. Jacek Kossut - Secretary of the Conference (on the right). Prof. Jacek Baranowski - chairman of the Monday session (on the left). |
| The conference took place in Jaszowiec near Ustron,
from 4th to 9th June, 2000. | ![]() |
Jaszowiec is placed in a beautiful mountain valley.
Conference center was composed of three hotels: Kolejarz, Gwarek and Dab. |
| 4 VI 2000, Sunday
The conference has begun with a "Welcome glass of wine". It was a very nice beginning. | ![]() |

4 VI 2000,
Just after the beginning, the most important part of the conference - discussion started. It is tradition of Jaszowiec that people discuss a lot not only during presentation but also during "free time". |

5 VI 2000, Monday, second day of the conference, discussion...
Prof. R. Stepniewski explains something important to Francisco J. Teran. In the middle Prof. M.Potemski. |
![]() |
discussion...
Prof. M.Kaminska talks with Agnieszka Wolos about LT GaAs. In Warsaw, they could speak every day, but in Jaszowiec it is much easier to find an interesting conclusion. |

6 VI 2000, Tuesday, third day of the conference, discussion...
On the first plan: Prof. S. Porowski talks with F. J. Teran (probably about his last success with laser on homoepitaxial GaN), On the second plan: people from UNIPRESS (Dr. M. Leszczynski, Prof. T. Suski, Dr. I. Grzegory,...) |
| 5 VI 2000, Lectures.
Lectures took place in the "Kolejarz" hotel in quite comfortable conditions. However, chairs placed nearly to the speaker were not so comfortable. Moreover, most of the lecture room was in darkness what made a photographer life hard. | ![]() |
| Lectures.
Invited talks were the most important lectures (and usually the most interesting). Here, Prof. Fiorentini talks about spontaneous polarisation in InGaAlN structures. 5 VI 2000 | ![]() |
| Lectures, Invited talks.
Prof. A. Twardowski speaks about diluted magnetic III-V semiconductors. Tuesday, 6 VI 2000, | ![]() |
| Lectures, Invited talks.
Prof. B.L. Gallagher: "2D Electrons Gas in Non-Uniform Magnetic Fields" Tuesday, 6 VI 2000, | ![]() |
| Lectures, Invited talks.
Prof. B.A. Weinstein, "High-Pressure Studies of Semiconductors in the Far-Infrared: Donor States in Quasi-2D" Wednesday, 7 VI 2000, | ![]() |
![]() |
Chairmen are the most responsible (and heavy working) persons during lectures.
He decides who can speak and how long. 7VI 2000, Prof. Furdyna - chairman of the Wednesday session. Microphone goes to Dr. C.R.L.P.N. Jeukens, who will speak about "Formation of Negatively Charged Excitons in High Magnetic Fields" |
![]() |
6 VI 2000
Prof. Kaminska - chairwoman of Tuesday morning session. Microphone goes to Prof. Gaj. |
| Oral talks were presented in the evenings. They were shorter then invited talks but usually gave more details about scientific work.
On Monday evening, Dr. Eliana Kaminska told about "Contacting to p-Type GaN Using Zr-Based Metallization" On the right: Prof. Suski - chairman of the Monday oral session | ![]() |
| Oral talks.
Dr. Adam Babinski talks about "Optical Determination of d -Doping Concentration in Semiconductor Structures" | ![]() |
| Oral talks.
Dr. P. Kossacki talks about "Radiative Lifetimes of Negatively Charged Excitons in CdTe-Based Quantum Wells" | ![]() |
![]() |
On Monday, Tuesday and Thursday poster sessions had been organised.
Monday, 5 VI 2000, Jacek Szczytko presents his work about semimagnetic semiconductor InMnAs. |
![]() |
In each session, one could see more than 30 posters
Here, Dr. Anna Piotrowska under her poster: "On the Nature of the Second Metastable DX Center in CdF2:Ga Crystals". On the right: Dr. Zbigniew Zytkiewicz. |
![]() |
It is much easier to ask question and understand answers during poster session than during oral presentation. It is a dialog not a monolog.
Prof. M. Leszczynski talks about InGaN layers grown on bulk GaN crystals. |
![]() |
Poster session.
During poster session it is much easier to exchange some information. Here, dr. A. Babinski gives his visit card. |

Poster session.
Prof. T. Suski under her poster: "Resistivity and "Mg-H" Local Vibrational Mode in Bulk GaN:Mg Crystals". 5 VI 2000 |
![]() |
Poster of Dr. Andrzej Witowski "Studies of Shallow Donors in MOCVD Growth GaN Layers" attracted a great interest. |
![]() |
During poster sessions drinks were easily available what illuminated the way to wonderful ideas. |
| Meals
Lunches have been served in Gwarek hotel. Everybody could compose his own salad. | ![]() |
![]() |
Meals
Coffee break, 7 VI 2000. The cups were usually ordered in cubic symetry. |
![]() |
Meals
Since cafeteria was next to the poster room, everybody could eat something sweet during session. |
| A great attraction of Jaszowiec are beautiful mountains around.
Czantoria mountain is well visible from the windows of lecture room. Photograph has been taken on Tuesday. | ![]() |
|
However, Czantoria is not always visible. This photograph has been taken on Wednesday, in the morning before official excursion to Czantoria. Finally, excursion had been canceled. | ![]() |
|
The nearest mountain is Rownica, so it is the first goal of excursions. The mountain is not very high and there are some pubs just below the top. | ![]() |
|
Climbing is a hard work, so it is very nice to meet some wild strawberries... | ![]() |
|
..or blackberries. This spring was very warm, so barries have grown earlier. | ![]() |
|
Arek, Piotr and Iza are going down from Rownica. We were going for the first time this path with a hope that it is a good way. However, the way down is usually easier.... | ![]() |
|
... but not always. The path had vanished somewhere. Iza Kuryliszyn steps down with a little help of Arek Kudelski.
| ![]() |
|
However, you will always find a way to the conference center. The way goes via little bridge to the right. It is about 2 km along a forest road.
